How to Embed a Tweet in CrowdPlace
Posted by CrowdPlace in Uncategorized on December 15, 2011
Sometimes you want to save or share a favorite Tweet. You can now embed Tweets directly in a CrowdPlace post.
Here’s how:
1) Find the tweet you want to embed and click on it (it will open up), then find the “Details” link and click on it.
2) A full page will open with the tweet on it. Click on “Embed this Tweet”.
3) A pop up will open up over the page. Select all the code and copy it.
4) Choose the best channel, open an input box.
Then, you can paste it into the Embed Code field in CrowdPlace.
Fill in any other information like a title or comments.
And, that’s all. The post will have an embedded tweet in it.
The Mysterious Embed Code: How to share videos and other active content
Posted by CrowdPlace in Uncategorized on December 3, 2011
A lot of sites on the Web now allow you to share their content like videos, music, slide shows, and more via embed codes. And, CrowdPlace supports this functionality so you can share active content inside a CrowdPlace post.
Often the site will have a button near (or inside) a video, near a song title, or near a slide show that says “Share” or “Embed“.
The most commonly used symbol on sites that allow embedding content looks like this (it could look different):
Clicking on these when you are surfing the web allows you to share videos and more on CrowdPlace.
Once you click on the “share” or “embed” button or link on a website you will see a bunch of code.

Just copy and paste that code into the “Embed Code” field on CrowdPlace – and that content will be in your post.
So – that’s it – you can now share video, music, and other things in all sorts of channels on CrowdPlace.
Multi-Word Tags For Better Findability
Posted by CrowdPlace in Uncategorized on November 13, 2011
When we describe things with tags we want to be as accurate as possible so we can find stuff later. So, the better the tagging, the better the findability. And, it’s just simply a better design. You would not want to lock yourself into an online service that did not support multi-word tags.
Here’s an example
You make a post in the Technology Channel or maybe the Business Channel about Steve Jobs.
You could save 2 words as tags:
Steve, Jobs
But, then when you try to find it later – the tag word Jobs gets lumped in with all the posts you saved about jobs. What a mess.
And, some sites make you combine multiple word tags – stevejobs. Not a good idea. This causes problems as well.
Or, on CrowdPlace you would enter your tags – with proper spaces – and separate tags with commas:
Steve Jobs, Apple
Now, you have something you can use later. You have the tag: Steve Jobs and the tag: Apple.
That’s a better way to save the information.
So, we recommend multi-word tags for better findability. CrowdPlace supports them by design. Just follow the example above and separate tags (or multi-word tags) with commas.
Sign up for CrowdPlace now and improve the findability of the links and other information you save or share online.
“What’s Happening Now” Meets Better Findability
Posted by CrowdPlace in Uncategorized on November 11, 2011
Top social media sites are designed to share information (status updates, links, maybe pics and videos) about what is happening right now. These sites are best at letting you know “What’s Happening”. These are good communication tools for tons of random stuff. There are some features to help users look back – but the design is mostly about what is happening right now.
On the other hand, top bookmarking sites are set up to make the information findable later. That’s why you use a bookmarking site. It is all about findability.
So, what happens when you begin with long term, searchable, findable design and combine it with some social/ connected features? You get the best of both worlds.
You get CrowdPlace.
CrowdPlace allows you to see tags and search posts within categories – for yourself and for all the people you follow – it’s baked into the design.
When you follow someone, your stream, search, and top tags are melded together – creating a personalized database of useful stuff.
We make posts useful over a long period of time.
Simple idea, but it makes sense.

Announcing the CrowdPlace Beta Release
Posted by CrowdPlace in Uncategorized on October 25, 2011
We are excited to announce CrowdPlace! We are now in public beta release.
So, let’s get to it:
We make it easier to save, share, organize, and find your everyday information and conversations.
Beyond the Status Update
We are going beyond the status update to give people more ways to save and share information.
For example:
- All your links (shared or private)
- What would you like to have? (Wish List)
- Any tips for entrepreneurs? (Entrepreneurism)
- What are some great links concerning design?
- Thoughts and links concerning technology.
- Read any good books lately? (Books)
- How’s the game going? (NFL, NBA, MLB, etc.)
- Many more
3 Reasons to Start Using CrowdPlace Now
1. Manage the noise
You can create a custom feed of only the topics and people you care about.

The thing about a lot of websites these days is that they are too noisy. Lot of status updates flood our information streams.
Let’s try something different. CrowdPlace has topics that can be controlled so that you can read what you want to read and mute the rest.
2. Channels
We have categories (we call them Channels) where you can find topical information, links, and conversations with friends and others.

3. Find old links, posts, and videos
Keep all your links, status updates, topics, wish list items, and more – tagged and search-able.

Remember that cool link you shared on your favorite social network a year ago?
Could you find it?
Neither could we.
CrowdPlace allows you to search and find old posts (by you and people you follow) – creating the ultimate database of links and other information – all broken down into logical topics, posts, and data fields.
Note, that his is a beta release, so we are constantly making changes and improvements. We still expect a few rough edges as we work towards a more stable product. You can always contact us about issues at: http://support.crowdplace.com/contact-us/. Thanks for your patience as we improve.
